2016 University Day/ Tar Heel Day of Service #ServeCarolina

University Day, October 12th,  marks the laying of the cornerstone of Old East, the nation’s first state university building, in 1793 and the beginning of public higher education in the United States.

The University first celebrated University Day on October 12, 1877, after Governor Zebulon B. Vance ordered that “the anniversary of the day on which the cornerstone of the University was laid be made a college holiday to be observed with appropriate ceremonies under the direction of the faculty.”

To honor University Day, Tar Heel Service Day was born.  In 2015, Tar Heels participated in 76 service projects throughout the United States and internationally.

2016 events will be held from Saturday, Oct. 8 to Sunday, Oct. 16.

Columbia Carolina Club will be assisting the Salvation Army, October 15th from 10am-12 noon. Download form below and bring with you to volunteer.
